OUGD502 - PPP - Life's a Pitch - Final presentation & Thoughts

OUGD502 - PPP - Life's a Pitch - Final presentation & Thoughts

The presentation:

Today we presented our pitch for our fictional company, Lacuna. After first doing it I felt that it was a success, and we had covered most aspects of a real company with the potential to start up tomorrow! It was only when I watched a couple more presentations such as SubLime and Stvdio when I thought that there were a lot more aspects we could have looked into, and how much there actually is to think about when setting up a new company, and I was thoroughly impressed!

I would really like to study more into this kind of thing, this business orientated module has been extremely beneficial but I feel like we've only covered the tip of the iceberg!

OUGD502 - Life's a pitch - Research into our business

Life's a Pitch - Research

In groups of 5, we are planning to create our own 'companies' to practice the plans we'd need to put in place if we were to set up our own businesses.

People in my group:

Jane Hansegaard, Adam Garbutt, Samantha Walker & Will Jeffrey

As a group, we have decided that the nature of our business concerns Branding and Identity / Product and packaging design, the strengths of our group's design skills and so to our personal interests.

We have each given ourselves roles to research into the information we need to set up our business. I have been asked to locate and resolve our issue of office space. Once we have found out this information we can compare it to Will's findings about renting chairs in an existing office space to make an informed decision.

Office Space

Location -

Because our area of expertise requires printed material, we think it's best that our office should be located near a printers and somewhere outside the city centre of Leeds so that it's cheaper rent etc but accessible to city centre clients.

Size -

We estimate that we would need around 500sq ft of office space, but are unsure of our price range, because we are unsure of what is available.

First off, I see where the commercial printers are located in Leeds:

Team impression, as seen at the bottom of the image look like a suitable printers:

But there are no offices with the suitable size/ prices that we are hoping for:

However there is another good professional printers called Service Point Leeds.

Who look really suitable like they do large print runs etc.

And products that are suitable to our business:

They are located in a business park, St Davids Court:

However, I couldn't find any spaces to rent within our budget near there.

Except maybe this place? It's just under £200 per calendar month .

I'm not sure if this is a good or a bad price!

But I think that it's pretty good considering it's serviced, too:

for 100 sq ft, almost double our estimated size we think we need. But is this a good thing? Depends if the price is good! Will need to deliberate with my group to check this.

It has parking, which resolves a potentially catastrophic problem of resolving travelling / parking costs.

This concludes my research for this week, until I can check with my group that my decisions are running smoothly!
